Lexington, KY
Best Restaurants -(Local Specialty)
Billy's Hickory Pit Bar-B-Q
(Restaurants - Local Specialty)
101 Cochran Rd
Lexington KY 40502
859-269-9593
Description:
Simple and laid-back, this local joint takes pride in its Western Kentucky-style barbecue, which is slow-cooked pork shoulder, pulled from the bone, chopped and sauced up, and often served on grilled bread. It's good alright, but they also do beef brisket, mutton (a local, robust delicacy), baby back ribs, and will even serve you chicken or a burger if you so desire. Sandwiches and plates can both be had, and you'd do well to add in some Mexican corn bread or an order of "frickles" (deep-fried pickles, for the uninitiated!).

Jonathan at Gratz Park
(Restaurants - Local Specialty)
120 W 2nd St
Lexington KY 40507
859-252-4949
Description:
Named for chef Jonathan Lundy, this charming restaurant has a refined, Old World feel, thanks to its presence in the Gratz Park Inn. Deep, ochre-toned walls and polished woodwork surround diners, who delight in the kitchen's "redefined regional cuisine." The hip, upscale menu includes lobster and dumplings, black-eyed pea-crusted sea scallops, coffee-seared pork chops, fried oyster-stuffed filet mignon, and barbecued yellowfin tuna. A wonderfully cozy bar makes a terrific hangout for the professional crowd, and private events are welcomed.
